The actor revealed his wife Alejandra Silva is planning lunches for 35 people amid their move to Madrid with their two children
Richard Gere's holiday season will be kicking off in Spain!
After sharing his desire to relocate to the European country earlier this year, the actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday, Nov. 20, and revealed that he and his family will be celebrating Thanksgiving in Madrid as he discussed their move there.
"My wife [Alejandra Silva] is Spanish. Is this a problem for anybody out there?” joked Gere, 75, adding that he will still return to the United States.
“But my wife is Spanish and she gave me about seven years here, so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid with her family," said the Pretty Woman star, who was also discussing his upcoming series The Agency.
"Our kids are bilingual so they’re going to flourish there,” Gere added.
Host Jimmy Fallon asked Gere — who also joked that he is bilingual and can “speak 15 languages perfectly” — if he will be spending Thanksgiving in Madrid, to which he replied, “There in Spain, yeah.”
“My wife grew up in a big Spanish family, like a big Italian family, and her grandmother was kind of the glue that held that all together," he continued. "And the grandmother passed away [about] two years ago, so my wife, I can see her morphing into the new grandmother of this extended family. So she’s already planning for 35 people for Sunday lunches."
Gere and Silva first met in 2014 at a hotel in Positano, Italy, before marrying in May 2018. They went on to welcome two sons: Alexander, 5, and James, 4.

Silva, 41, also has an 11-year-old son named Albert, with her ex-husband Govind Friedland, while Gere welcomed his only child with second wife Carey Lowell, son Homer, in 2000.
Earlier on Wednesday, Gere appeared on the Today show with Savannah Guthrie where he also opened up about the family’s new chapter.
“My wife is Spanish, and we’re going there for her family, her friends, her culture. The kids are bilingual, so it’s really going to be great for them,” he said.
The couple’s move comes after Gere sold his Connecticut home for $11 million in October. Gere lived in the six-bedroom, 11-bathroom property with Silva and their kids for two years after purchasing it in 2022 for $10.8 million, according to local media outlet the New Canaan Advertiser.
The Maybe I Do actor first shared that he planned to move to his wife’s native country back in April during an interview with Vanity Fair Spain.
"For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture," he told the outlet. "She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers."
